ADIEU 2014

A few hours more... 2014 is going to become the part of history. It's invariably senseless and selfish to wish that only joyous moments should stay back throughout our lifetime. Surely my life was filled with multitudinous moments of joy and obviously negligible bits of sorrow. But I would like to count the former. Wish 2015 be filled with abundant moments filled with bliss.

CRY OF THE INNOCENT

December is biblically remembered not only for the birth of Jesus Christ, but for the cry of the innocent below the age of two who were brutally massacred by Herod. In the political chronology of India, December is marked with demolishing of the Masjid and its unfortunate aftermaths. In the Kerala contexts, it had been the season when the entire humanity becomes numb due to political scuffles and blood sheds especially in the North Malabar. This year, December turns to be the cruelest month with the heartrending cry of the innocent and helpless kids in Peshawar, Pakistan. The brutality of the Taliban, the inefficiency of the government, the political instability and the list may go on. Still a lament is choked in my throat which is the explicit response of an agonized mind.

LAST BELL for KERALA ENTRANCE

History is always the story of changes. The ovation of success and the lamenting of the defeat will also be heard during the course of time. The reports in connection with the government's move to give the last bell for Kerala Entrance Examination for different professional courses evoke a sense of anxiety on those looking at the academic world with a reasonable seriousness. The decision (if it is going to be true) is never for the interest of the students and no academic motive is seen behind it. The prevailing system of education in Kerala is viewed with a sense of suspicion merely on the fact that if it is able to provide quality irrespective of the marks (grades). Who will be the beneficiaries if the entrance test is taken away? What could be the change taking place in the evaluation system at higher secondary level which is already lenient? Will the aptitude of the students for different streams be taken into account? It will definitely create a generation devoid of employment. Hope the final decision will be taken only after serious discussions and perusals.

THOSE SLASHED OFF FROM THEIR CHILDHOOD

Much impressed by Sri. Kailash Satyarthi's decision of allocating the price money of the prestigious Nobel Prize towards the welfare of children. The real problem is not the absence of laws, but the way in which they are implemented and the loopholes for misuse. The Swedish Academy seems to have been praised for selecting the right person for such an award. It may undoubtedly be said that the services by Mr. Satyarthi would have been continued without being noticed by anyone in the nation if he hadn't received this. One of the major contradictions in our country is that the large chairs are being occupied by small individuals. Rarely comes the right recognition for the right person who deserves it.

MANN ki BAAT on 3D's

Listened to PM's Man ki Bath. I do share his anxiety on the future of the contemporary youth. The threat of 3D's really deserves grave considerations. The usage of drugs in various forms has become ubiquitous in all over the nation irrespective of rural or urban backgrounds. Recently one of my friends working as a counsellor in a Rehabilitation Centre shared with me an outrageous information. A person who was a drug addict and alcoholic was caught by the Police when he was trying to flee driving a mini bus from the parking area of a film theatre. He was only 10 years old!!! The government should try to initiate moves with the collaboration of NGO's, celebrities, teachers and parents and law enforcing agencies. It has been observed that the generation especially below the age of 17 is disastrously addicted towards social networking sites as a result of which their creativity and attention span become unbelievably deteriorated. It also affects the language development negatively. So addiction towards all such things should be addressed on a war foot basis.
